Schmutz ties for 4th, Huntingdon men's golf places 3rd in Rhodes Invitational

All five Huntingdon golfers finished within 14 strokes of first as the Hawks placed third in the Rhodes Mirimichi Invitational.
 
As a team, Huntingdon shot 308 on Monday and finished the tournament with a score of 622. Rhodes College was first at 613 and Millsaps College was second at 621. Rhodes’ Eric Muslawski was the tournament medalist with a 36-hole total of 147. 
 
Huntingdon’s Tyler Schmutz finished with a two-round total of 155 to tie for fourth. David James tied for seventh at 156 and Jamey Lester and Steven Smith both tied for ninth at 157. Griffin Just shot 161. Just and James both shot 4-over-par 76 in the final round on Monday.

NASP Alabama State Championship to be held in Montgomery tomorrow

NASP Alabama State Championship to be held in Montgomery tomorrow

The largest youth archery competition in Alabama, the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) Alabama State Championship, will be held Thursday, April 4, 2013, at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl located at 220 Hall St., Montgomery, Ala., 36104.  Individual groups will begin shooting at 8:30, 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. The media and public are invited.

This is the first time the NASP Alabama State Championship will be held in Montgomery.

Huntingdon men's golf places 3rd in Emory Spring Invitational

Three Hawks shot par or better on Tuesday to lead the men’s golf team to a third-place finish in the Emory Spring Invitational at Druid Hills Golf Club.
 
Griffin Just shot a 2-under-par 70 in the final round, David James shot a 1-under 71 and Jamey Lester shot an even-par 72. As a team, Huntingdon shot 290 on Tuesday and finished with a two-round total of 589.
 
Oglethorpe won the Invitational with a 571 and Methodist University was second at 578. Oglethorpe’s Anthony Maccaglia shot a 5-under 67 in the final round and earned medalist honors with a 36-hole total of 138.
 
Huntingdon’s just tied for seventh at 145, James tied for ninth at 146 and Lester was 18th at 149.

Huntingdon’s top four golfers are all within six strokes of the lead after the first round of the Emory Spring Invitational at Druid Hills Golf Club.
 
As a team, the Hawks are 14 strokes out of first and in fifth place entering Tuesday’s final round. Huntingdon shot 299 on Monday. Methodist is first at 285, followed by Oglethorpe at 287, Christopher Newport is third at 292 and Berry is fourth at 298. 
 
Steven Smith led Huntingdon with a 2-over-par 74 and is tied for 15th. David James, Griffin Just and Tyler Schmutz are tied for 19th at 3-over 75. Jamey Lester shot 5-over 77.
 
Christopher Newport’s Brian Jaeger turned in the low round on Monday with a 3-under 69.

Huntingdon men's golf in 14th after first round of Jim Bishop Classic

The Huntingdon men’s golf team shot 331 on Monday in the first round of the Jim Bishop Classic. The Hawks are in 14th entering Tuesday’s final round.
 
Central Alabama Community College and Henderson State are tied for first with a score of 304. Northern Kentucky is third at 307.
 
Delta State’s Cameron Thomas shot an even-par 72 for Monday’s low round.
 
Tyler Schmutz and Rodes Bowers both shot 79 to lead Huntingdon. Jamey Lester shot 85, Griffin Just shot 88 and Steven Smith shot 89. Playing as an individual, David James shot 94.
